Reflektor XL is a wall-mounted light sculpture developed as an extension of an existing surface and wallcovering practice. The work occupies a space between functional light and sculptural object, where illumination is treated as conditional rather than declarative. Each piece is formed using hand-worked gesso and hand-applied finishes. The surface is built in layers, compressed and shaped by hand, allowing irregularity and material variance to remain visible. The process is slow and additive. No two works are identical, and variation is inherent rather than corrected. Light is introduced as a narrow vertical aperture recessed within the form. It functions less as a source of illumination and more as a register of depth, edge, and material. When unlit, the object reads as a sculptural presence on the wall. When activated, the light alters the perception of the surface without becoming the primary subject. Reflektor XL measures approximately 32 inches in height by 9 inches in width. The scale is architectural and intended to establish the piece as an object rather than an accessory.
