In a consequential collaboration, Thús Huma has bridged the gap between Haren’s remote studio and the contemporary design world of West Hollywood. By introducing Haren’s masterpieces to her gallery, Thús Huma is not just selling a product; she is actualizing a new discourse on luxury. These mats are presented as “zero-waste art”—sustainable, provocative, and deeply character-driven. This partnership allows global collectors to discover a piece of Bengali heritage, re-framed through a worldly lens that values the aura of the handmade and the personal connection of the artisan. A transformative dialogue between nature and geometry. Recognized by UNESCO, these zero-waste masterpieces are woven from the Mutra plant by Haren, the sole surviving guardian of this intricate, academic weaving style. Haren Das is a master weaver and one of the last custodians of the Shitol Pati tradition from Sylhet, Bangladesh. His work transforms hand-split mutra cane into intricate woven surfaces, preserving a UNESCO-recognized craft through contemporary applications that honour its cultural and material integrity.
Huma Sulaiman is an aesthete whose design philosophy bridges the worldly and the intimate. Her journey is one of passion and precision, shaped by years of discovery and an innate ability to weave narratives through spaces. Thús Huma is a gathering of seemingly disparate worlds: geography, art & design, which Huma translates for contemporary audiences.
